Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2014

A bright citrus aroma is very noticeable right away followed by a mineral mouthfeel. On the finish you get the classic grass/hay flavour you’d expect from a nice sauvignon blanc. The overall profile is very crisp and dry.

Barefoot Moscato

Thankfully this wine is only 8.5% because after my first sip on this hot summer day I accidentally downed the 10oz glass. Of course I poured myself another so I could help our readers with their weekend wine shopping. In a nutshell: buy a few bottles, open them when it’s hot out and enjoy a sweet wine for a change!

Strewn Riesling Gewürztraminer 2007

This fusion of whites provides a deep bouquet and crisp palette. It’s an ok buy, but I would recommend the Pillitteri over it and even Strewn’s regular riesling.
Best as an aperitif

Strewn Semi-Dry Riesling 2006

This pale straw coloured riesling, served well chilled looked, smelled and tasted great in my new Riedel glassware. The past few cold winters didn’t affect the riesling vines as much as others, which may be why it’s the hottest white on the market right now.
Overall this is a great buy: crisp, acidic and flavourful. Proof why you should keep buying your whites from Ontario.

Pasqua Soave 2007

Here’s a lesson to everyone, when shopping for a wine, just because it has a classification written on the label, doesn’t mean it’s a ‘good’ wine.  Click here to learn what makes a wine good.  So VQA, DOC, VDQS, AOC, etc.. just means the wine passed regulations.  Regulations that have no account for taste.
If you’re served this wine, use it to make a spritzer
Tip: serve ice cold, and possibly in some sprite.

Fazi Battaglia Verdicchio 2007

Excellent as a chilled aperitif, Verdicchio is a grape not well know to many. It’s name is a derivative of the word “verde” (which means green in Italian) due to its slight green/yellow hue.
Warning: This bottle is so Italian you may be inclined to make your own tomato sauce.
Tip: moderate-high acidity

Naked Grape Chardonnay

Why on earth would you call your wine Naked Grape? well, it’s not just marketing hype, it’s also because this winery chooses to go against the grain [haha, insert golf clap here] and not use oak barrels to age their wine. This gives a wine a lighter, crisper and a more fruit-forward stance without the possibility of drowning it in oak or vanilla flavours.
In general we can say this is a fun outdoor summer sipping wine with it’s tart tropical fruit finish.
Tip: Enjoy this wine straight from the fridge as it will lose it’s crispiness as it warms up.
